When I started cutting opal many years ago, there were two or three cutters in the US that did intarsias. Now there are none that I know of. It is an exacting process and I do a few now and then. I love the way they look. Our hand crafted sterling ring features an Australian opal intarsia measuring 3/4 by 1/2 inches. The ring size is 7 1/2.
